“Twist”

Twist is a stunning example of art, craftsmanship and function designed to be used and enjoyed for generations. while rooted in the past through the materials ad techniques of antiquity, this work of art stands squarely in out time, and will be a dynamic centerpiece in a wide range of interior styles.

Twist was created and produced by artist Gregory Higgins or Santa Inez Valey, California and designer/craftsman Niall Bourke of Kipper in Los Angeles, California. This collaboration is a unique blend of art, design, engineering and old-world craftsmanship.

The tabletop is made of Bubinga wood from West Africa. It is a one-and-three-quarter-inch thick slab measuring eleven feet and nine-and-a-quarter-inch in length by approximately forty-four inches in width. bubinga is the wood’s commercial name; the hundred years old, one hundred and fifty feet high and approximately seven feet in diameter. This Veneer-quality log was shipped from West Africa to Germany, where it was sawn into slabs ad then kiln dried. Kiln drying is a controlled method of drying wood that reduces potential splitting and warping.

The Bubinga slab is set on two base elements that are cast in one-hundred-and-thirty-pounds of silicon bronze, a 92% copper alloy, and finished with a durable heat patina. Each base element can be easily and quickly adjusted so as to level the table to any floor surface.
